Rhino rewild
Rhino Rewild is a 10-year initiative dedicated to rescuing and rewilding 2000 rhinos, as well as regenerating the wild habitats they require.
We felt incredibly privileged and fortunate to be present in March 2026 on a day when rhinos were being captured and prepared for rewilding in other parks.
During this process, the animals undergo a medical examination and genetic profiling before being prepared for transport in specialized crates for their journey to other game parks. The containers are loaded onto trucks and typically reach their destination—the designated wildlife park—later that same day. There, the rhinos are released into the wild the following day. All of this is executed with the utmost precision, flawless organization, and constant veterinary supervision.
It is deeply distressing to witness how poachers repeatedly kill these animals within the parks solely to obtain their horns. Consequently, during the rewilding process, the horns of many of these animals are removed—surgically trimmed—before they are transported to their new habitats, in order to minimize the risks they face there. It breaks one's heart to see the lengths to which people must go simply to protect these animals and sustain their populations.
Our day with „Rhino Rewild“ was defined by the presence of wonderful, ambitious people on the ground who provided us with an extraordinary experience. On the day we visited, a total of 16 rhinos were captured—including 7 mothers with their calves and 2 bulls. The entire operation was carried out with enthusiasm and precision, with every effort made to minimize stress for the animals. We forged friendships with some truly remarkable people that day, and for that, we are deeply grateful. Moving forward, we intend to ensure that this vital mission continues to receive financial support—both from us and from our friends. The "Rhino Rewild" initiative relies entirely on donations and benefactors—perhaps this is a cause that you, too, might wish to support?
On our part, a heartfelt thank you to the entire team for the eventful and very exciting days on-site! Some of the photos document the incredible work being done here. We will carry this with us in our thoughts forever.
